Venison Processing Research Revisited
10-09-2007 | webmaster
Industry funding for venison processing research is being discussed after the governments funding agency FoRST declined to provide matching funding.
FoRST announced in July that it would provide $1.5 million to AgResearch for venison supply systems research projects excluding processing ones. DEEResearch had orginally allocated $400,000 of industry co-investment, but has now removed $52,000 of industry money that would have co-funded processing research projects.
Deer Industry New Zealand Science Manager Dr Lindsay Fung says options are now being considered for how this could be spent, including the possibility that it could be made available for projects initiated by processing companies, in a similar way to the joint-funded promotional funding.
If a company has a project that the whole industry might benefit from, DEEResearch could put up some of the funding, he explains. Thats attractive because you get industry ownership and close links. The results would need to be available and accessible to the rest of the industry.
