VENISON SCHEDULE UPDATE

Schedules have hit $7/kg this week, a level last seen at this time of the year in 2001, reports NZX Agrifax, and schedules can only go higher, the analysts say. Overseas spot market prices have firmed over the past month, but with most companies concentrating on supplying their key clients, there is very little spot product available. A speculative element is creeping into the spot market as traders seek to secure frozen product before the imminent dive in NZ's production from already low levels. The lack of South American beef in Europe is also fuelling demand for other meats including venison. Co-product returns are also showing solid price gains.
